General Election 2027 · Independent election watch

Every vote counted, in the open

Awlion watches the election at polling stations across Kenya: how voting runs, what goes wrong, and whether the results announced match the forms signed at each station. We support no candidate and no party.

What we watch

Trained observers at polling stations report what they see, as it happens, from a phone that works without signal.

  1. 1Opening Does the station open on time, with every ballot box, ballot paper and voter register in place?
  2. 2Voting Turnout through the day, queues, and anyone turned away, pressured or offered money.
  3. 3The count Counted in the open, and the result posted on Form 34A at the station door.
  4. 4Incidents Violence, intimidation, missing materials or a broken kit, reported with photos and followed up.
  5. 5Results Every Form 34A we photograph is checked against the figures the IEBC publishes.
  6. 6The record Each report is sealed when it arrives, so nobody can change it later. Anyone can check a receipt.

How to vote

It takes a few minutes. Here is what happens at the polling station.

  2. Show your IDBring the national ID or passport you registered with. The clerk finds you on the register with your fingerprint or face.
  3. Collect your ballotsIn a general election you get six: President, Governor, Senator, Woman Representative, Member of Parliament and MCA.
  4. Vote in secretMark each ballot in the booth, fold it, and put it in the box of the same colour.
  5. Watch the countVotes are counted in the open at the station. The result is posted outside on Form 34A for anyone to see.

Know your rights

  • Nobody may tell you how to vote, or ask how you voted.
  • If you have a disability or cannot read, you may bring someone you trust to help, or ask the presiding officer.
  • You do not need a voter's card. Your ID or passport is enough.
  • Offering money or gifts for votes is a crime. Report it.
